Halloween in Halesworth!

The pretty market town of Halesworth is located just a few miles from Southwold and the beautiful Suffolk coast. A popular destination for holidaymakers as well as locals looking to explore the area, the town offers plenty of activities and events throughout the year.

One of the most popular events that takes place in Halesworth is the town’s annual Scarecrow festival. A fantastic activity for all the family, it offers visitors of all ages the chance to get into the Halloween spirit, flex their creative muscles and have some fun.

The 9th annual Halesworth Scarecrow festival

Now in its ninth year, the Halesworth Scarecrow festival will run from the 20th to the 17th October. For the entire week, businesses around town will be displaying their very own homemade scarecrows. Ranging from the terrifying to the bizarre, these scarecrows help to bring the town to life and get everyone into the Halloween spirit.

Treasure trail

Running alongside the Scarecrow Festival will be a specially designed treasure trail. Aimed at young visitors, it gives keen-eyed sleuths the chance to hunt down clues and find hidden film titles in shop windows around town. The perfect activity for a half term afternoon, the treasure trail will run for the full week during the Scarecrow Festival.

Getting involved

If you like the idea of racing around town in the search for clues, or if you want to spend a day admiring the various scarecrows on display in Halesworth, you can find entry forms in the Halesworth Library and in Edwards Restaurant. Entry costs £1 per form and the winner will have the chance to turn on the towns Christmas lights on the 24th November.

Make your own scarecrow

Even if you don’t run a business in Halesworth, there’s nothing to stop you from making a scarecrow or two of your own. Take inspiration from the many scarecrows on display around the town and then grab yourself some cardboard boxes, paint, glue and accessories. Make your scarecrow into a witch, wizard, goblin or other terrifying creature and scare all the visitors that come trick or treating at your house this Halloween.
